Refusal to perform an operation due to HIV status

Andrii was hospitalized in serious condition with a head injury. In the intensive care unit, the man was tested with a rapid HIV test, which turned out to be positive.

Andrew was scheduled to undergo emergency surgery, but after receiving the test results, the surgeon began to delay the process and recommended that the operation be delayed until a full HIV test was performed and ART therapy was prescribed to reduce the viral load.

The client turned to the documentator of the REAct project and asked for help. The REActor met with the surgeon to clarify the situation. The woman explained that the doctor’s actions violate the client’s rights to medical care, which is punishable by law. After that, the documentator assisted in getting a consultation for the surgeon with the infectious disease doctor of the trust office. Later, Andrii underwent the necessary surgery and received treatment.
